Critical Listening 1

Doctor Jazz by Jelly Roll Morton -

The song begins with an solo that from what I can tell is most likely a Saxophone. Brass comes in as well as a bass and piano to start the first "A" section of the tune. From what I can tell I would say the tune is about 100 bpm. The Sax starts the "B" part which sounds literally amazing. The sax sounds so unique I almost thought for a minute that it was a man singing. It tricked me which I thought was really cool! A man starts singing through what im guessing would be the "A" part repeating? There is another solo at the end which I'm confused with because I have no idea if it would be considered an Outro or "C" a whole new part? The bass line is very easy to pick out and definitely is the heartbeat of the song! It's what I found myself tapping my foot to throughout. The piano sounds like it's almost soloing at times to accompany the sax. After about my 6th listen I heard a Guitar which I thought was almost hiding. All the instruments blend so well together it's beautiful. It seems as if almost every person in the band had a solo! Maybe that's why I got so confused with the whole "ABAA" pattern ideas. The tune ends with a bang kind of realeasing a little tension in your big toe from tapping your foot the whole song! :) I really hope I can get better at these critical listenings I feel like I im trying too hard and the answers to being good at this are right in front of my eyes. Can't wait till the next one to see if this weeks classes help me out!

Chord Exploration

These are some simple chords I looked up and tried playing on my guitar! Not the most simple after trying to play the darn things! When ever I was lucky enough to strike a clean strum that didn't sound like a demolition derby it was very pleasant to hear! If you got a Guitar around you give them a try also! Don't laugh at my pain endure it with me! :D

Basic Jazz Guitar

I wanted to start my research on Jazz Guitar by learning some of the most basic chords and how they sound. I have played guitar for a while but at a very basic beginner level. All these chords sound beautiful! I'm starting to get a little excited about learning some new chords! They are all so GROOVY! Kinda make you wanna dance in a way! ;) I better not just start dancing with my headphones in around my Roommates though! They might think I'm a little crazy... ;)
